SlowMov

Carmen Callizo left a career in tech to train under Antoine Netien at Coutume in Paris, and it was Netien who eventually told her and her partner François Justet that Barcelona, not Paris or London or anywhere else they'd lived, was the city that needed a specialty coffee roastery. They opened SlowMov in May 2015, one of the first of its kind in the city alongside Nomad, built around a Slow Life philosophy that treats the shop as a platform for small producers generally rather than just a place to sell coffee.

The room itself does a lot of the work: a former cabinetmaker and hatmaker's house in Gràcia with ceilings pushing four meters, a Catalan vaulted ceiling overhead, hydraulic mosaic tile underfoot, and the original wooden beams left exposed. Beans are roasted in house and sold both by the cup and in bags to take home, single origin lots rotating through a lineup that includes their own Tapachula and Tolima releases.
