Departure Coffee Co.

Xavi and Raquel opened Departure Coffee Co. in June 2017 in a former carpentry workshop on a quiet Raval side street, keeping the huge wooden doors and filling the room with wood and vintage touches rather than gutting it. They had spent two years studying the specialty scene across Europe before opening, and the space shows it: unhurried, art led and a long way from the noise of the Rambla.

Espresso has long come from the Barcelona roaster SlowMov, while the filter side is left open to guest roasters from Spain and abroad. The walls double as a small gallery, with the art changing every few weeks and the occasional concert or event, so it suits a slow break more than a quick grab, with room to settle in and look around.
