Houndstooth Coffee

Sean Henry, a UT film school graduate, worked coffee bar shifts at Central Market and spent his off days at Mozart's studying the craft before opening this North Lamar shop in 2010. His brother Paul joined shortly after as a barista, and the pair later co founded Tweed Coffee Roasters, which now supplies the retail bean shelf here as a sibling company rather than an outside roaster.

The shop was named Imbibe Magazine's 2019 Coffee People of the Year, recognition for a consistent, unfussy espresso program rather than any single signature drink. Oat and almond milk are both on offer, and bags of Tweed beans line the counter for anyone who wants to keep brewing at home.
