Portrait Coffee

The white La Marzocco espresso machine at Portrait Coffee with a row of orange coffee bags in front of green tile

Portrait Coffee began in 2019 as a roasting company founded by Aaron Fender, Marcus Hollinger and John Onwuchekwa, with the aim of making specialty coffee more accessible. Its first cafe opened in late August 2023 on Ralph David Abernathy Boulevard in West End, in the Lottie Watkins Building, named for the real estate broker who worked from the address for decades.

Behind the counter a white La Marzocco sits between a grinder and a row of orange bags, in front of pale green tile. The coffees on the shelf carry names such as Toni, Founders, Barry and Stacey, with a rotation of single origins beside them, and bags are sold at the counter and through a coffee club. The cafe opens daily, at seven on weekdays and eight on weekends, and closes at four.
