Academy Coffee

Academy Coffee is the work of Connan Moody, an Atlanta native who studied design at Pratt, poured coffee at cafes across New York and won a Stumptown Strange Brews competition before bringing his approach home. The shop now sits inside Kinship Butcher and Sundry on Virginia Avenue, after an earlier stint at Irwin Street Market.

It is a multi roaster counter that buys from some of the best roasters in the United States and abroad, and the drinks borrow technique from the cocktail world, applying culinary and mixology methods to espresso and tea. A black espresso machine and a glass hopper grinder sit on a pale wood counter against white tile. The shop opens from eight until seven every day of the week.
