Screaming Beans

Screaming Beans has been roasting in Amsterdam for well over a decade, and its Runstraat flagship, tucked into the Nine Streets since 2018, is where the brand's own coffee first got a permanent counter. Every bean is certified organic and sourced from specialty farms, roasted for both a house espresso blend called Whisper, built on Colombian and Ethiopian lots, and a rotating single origin that changes roughly every month.
The room is small and intimate, shots pulled on a Kees van der Westen Spirit machine while filter runs through a Moccamaster for batch brew or a V60 for pour over, and cake and a short savoury menu round out the counter. Two more Screaming Beans locations have since opened across the city, but Runstraat remains the original, the kind of place where mornings start early and the regulars rarely have to order twice.
