Noortje Vlutters and Inge Bulthuis founded Back to Black in 2014 and began roasting their own beans the following year, building a specialty roastery around single origin lots and a willingness to experiment with unusual processing methods. This canal corner location near the Rijksmuseum runs walk in only, no reservations, with a genuine sustainability focus that extends to an in house SCA accredited training academy.

Oat and almond milk sit alongside the usual dairy, with the canal view just outside.
